Tiahuanaco, also spelled as Tiwanaku, is one of the oldest civilizations of the Andes region (1300 BC.-1200 AD.). Their advanced knowledge about architecture, religion, and astronomy made them the most important population centre of its era in South America.
You can take the Tiahuanaco / Tiwanaku ruins full day tour from the city of La Paz. The archaeological site of Tiahuanaco / Tiwanaku is 72 km from La Paz, about 1 1/2 hour by transportation.
Among the most important archaeological remains you can observe in Tiahunaco are the iconic monolith of Bennett (Beni), The temple of Kalasasaya, The Ponce monoliths, and the Sun Gate. Also, you can visit the nearby museums showcasing objects and tools of ancient civilizations.
Pick up from the lobby of your hotel at 09:00 hrs and transfer in private transportation to Tiwanaku. Experience a guided tour of the beautiful, intricate and monumental stone buildings that survive in the protected archaeological zones. They include the Kalasasaya Temple (Sun), legendary Sun Gate, semi-subterranean temple (Earth), Akapana Pyramid and Puma Punku ceremonial center.
