    Situated in the tropical lowlands of the Andes, the city of Santa Cruz is Bolivia’s most modern city, yet it preserves the colonial flare from the 1500s.

    Explore Santa Cruz’s colonial architecture, beautiful squares, and historical monuments. Plus, visit two of the city’s most exciting art museums, contrasting the best of modern and historical artwork.

    Travel only a few hours from Santa Cruz and discover the Jesuit missions that have survived from the colonial period. Established by the Jesuit missionary order to Christianize local tribes in the region, the missions’ architecture is a testament to the unique fusion of both cultures. Their intricate baroque-style embellishments are truly remarkable, and their history is just as amazing.

    At only 120 km (75 mi), you will find the beautiful countryside town of Samaipata, where you will feel energized as you breathe the fresh air, take in the scenery and marvel at the cave waterfalls of the area. The Fort of Samaipata is a pre-Hispanic ceremonial fortress, among the largest in South America, and a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site.

    Finally, spend one day at the Güembé Biocenter, a natural paradise surrounded by exotic plants, tropical forests, and wildlife. It features three artificial lagoons where you can swim, fish or kayak, as well as a large butterfly dome, aviaries, orchid exhibit, Monkey Island and more.     1. DAY 1 Airport Transfer & City Tour of Santa Cruz

      Morning flight to Santa Cruz booked on your own. Private transfer and guide from the airport to your hotel (altitude: 416 meters / 1365 feet).

      Half-Day Santa Cruz City Tour:

      Pick up from the lobby of your hotel to visit Plaza de Armas 24 de Septiembre and the cathedral, which shows an imposing architecture. Continue on to the Manzana Art Space, an exhibition of national paintings and photographs. Afterward, transfer to Santa Cruz old town, where you will appreciate the peculiar eaves and columns that give it a colonial touch. Travel through the different avenues called rings, which divide the city into beautiful squares with historical monuments. Later, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Regional History. Before returning to your hotel, you will enjoy a delicious typical lunch at Casa Camba (duration: 4 hours).

    2. DAY 2 Full Day Tour to Samaipata Fort

      Pick up from the hotel lobby and transfer to the countryside town of Samaipata, located 120 km (75 mi) from the city of Santa Cruz, where you will enjoy beautiful landscapes. You will stop at Fuerte de Samaipata (Samaipata Fort), a pre-Hispanic ceremonial fortress, among the largest in South America, and a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. After lunch, visit the archaeological museum in the town of Samaipata and cave waterfalls in the area (duration: 8 hours). Return to your hotel.

    3. DAY 3 Full-Day Jesuit Missions of San Javier and Concepción

      Today you will discover two wonderfully ornate Jesuit Mission towns, declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.  San Javier, the oldest mission in the region, is located 230 km from Santa Cruz (143 mi); and Concepción is located 45 km from San Javier (28 mi).

      At San Javier you will visit the baroque-style missionary church, the sacred museum, and the stone of the apostles. After lunch, you will travel to Concepción, where you will also visit the town’s mission church—considered a jewel in the region, the museum, the main square, and the water dam (duration: 11 hours). Transfer back to your hotel in Santa Cruz.

      NOTE: if you wish to include attendance to the mass and an unforgettable dinner with a violin concert featuring baroque music, we recommend you add 1 day to your trip and stay one night in Concepción.

    4. DAY 4 Güembé Biocenter

      Pick up from the hotel lobby to visit Güembé Biocenter, a natural paradise surrounded by exotic plants, tropical forests, and wildlife, such as beautiful macaws, toucans, and peacocks.  Some of the main attractions include the Butterfly Dome, the Aviary, Orchidarium, Anthill, Beekeeping, Termite Mounds, and Monkey Island. In addition, there are magnificent gardens, trails, pools, and even artificial lagoons where you can swim or kayak (duration: 7 hours). Return to your hotel.

      Finally, transfer to Viru Viru airport to take your international flight (booked on your own).
