    Death Road Mountain Bike from La Paz

    Nestled within the rugged Andes Mountains, the Death Road promises adventure, challenge, and a deep connection with nature. Starting from La Cumbre at 4,760 m or 15,616 ft (45 minutes from La Paz), you will descend through a mesmerizing landscape of sheer drops, lush rainforests, and cascading waterfalls, finally arriving at Yolosa (Bolivian Amazon) at 1,100 m / 3, 608 ft.

    Although the name may evoke danger or fear, the road’s recent improvements have made it a safer experience, allowing riders to revel in the beauty of Bolivia’s wilderness.

    1. Full Day DEATH ROAD MOUNTAIN BIKE FROM LA PAZ

      Gather at the meeting point at 7:00 a.m. to begin the most exciting ride of your life through Death Road. You will travel by bus up to “La Cumbre” pass (4,760 m or 15,616 ft), which is the highest point of the route (duration: 1 hour approx.). Here, your guide will provide you with a mountain bike and the gear necessary for the ride. You can try it out to make sure you are comfortable, and your guide will give the first set of instructions.

      After the first 22 km (13.67 mi) of paved road, you will reach a crossroads and the adventure really begins! You will follow the actual “Death Road”, a rocky dirt road with amazing precipices and narrow curves. It is a 44 km (27.3 mi) until your destination in Yolosa (1,100 m or 3,608 ft).

      Along the way, you will experience the most thrilling bike ride of your life, as you take in the beautiful rainforest scenery that engulfs you.  Your ride will end at “La Senda Verde” Animal Shelter where a hot shower, a cold drink and lunch will be waiting.

      After about two hours at the shelter, you will travel by bus back to La Paz (duration: 3 hours approx.), arriving by 9:30 p.m.

      Note: The bus will always be behind the group, so you can leave your belongings or even get on it, if you need to rest. We recommend you bring a change of clothes (including shoes) so you can shower and change at La Senda Verde Animal Shelter. Towels, shampoo and soap will be provided.

    Bring warm clothes for the beginning of the ride. Also, we recommend a full change of clothes (shoes included) because you will get wet and dirty. You can take a shower at La Senda Verde, where there are towels, shampoo and soap.

    Please note that sandals are not allowed during the ride. Make sure you have a good pair of sporty UVA-UVB sunglasses, both for ray protection and to help keep the dust and grit out of your eyes.

    The minimum recommended age for this tour is 14 years and the minimum height is 1.50 m (4’11’’). For safety reasons, minors under 18 years old must book an extra guide during the biking tour.
